Hong Ziqian in New York: Uber Adventure, a Bridge of Languages and a Flourishing Chapter of Cultural Fusion

In New York, a dazzling cosmopolitan city, Uber drivers are like the blood of the city, flowing between the bustling veins, weaving vivid and moving stories. Every ride is like an unknown adventure, leading me into untouched worlds.

1. Carpool adventure, a prelude to spiritual resonance

It was an ordinary afternoon, and the sun was shining through the clouds, giving the city a golden coat. As usual, I opened the Uber app and looked forward to a normal trip. However, when the door slowly opened, I was greeted by a warm picture: a golden puppy lying on the lap of a passenger, looking at me curiously with its watery eyes.

"Is this a Poodle?" I asked softly, an inexplicable sense of intimacy welling up in my heart.

"Yes, it's called Beanie." He replied with a smile, a pair of deep eyes hidden under black-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose, fluffy curls swaying gently in the breeze, and a black, semi-formal suit that looked professional and personal.

We quickly started talking, from anecdotes about dogs to shared memories of Beijing. It turned out that he had lived in Beijing for 11 years, was a film and television lawyer, and participated in the legal affairs of many well-known film and television works. And I, as an international student studying in Beijing and majoring in drama, film and television director, was both surprised and excited by this coincidence. We exchanged contact information and decided to use WeChat, a bridge across borders, to continue this rare fate.

2. The bridge of languages, the feast of cultural integration

In the following trip, our topic gradually deepened. I hesitated between Chinese and English, trying to find the most appropriate way to express myself, but he resolved my embarrassment with fluent Beijing dialect. "You're welcome, let's talk in Chinese!" His words were like a spring breeze blowing on my face, and I felt very kind.

We talked about Beijing's hutong culture, time-honored specialty snacks, and the unique atmosphere that can only be experienced in Beijing. His words were full of nostalgia and love for Beijing, and it made me feel as if I had returned to that familiar place. And when I mentioned the story of sharing "The Lost Horse of Saion" with foreign students, his eyes twinkled, saying that he had also tried to introduce Chinese traditional culture to foreign friends, but he always found it difficult to describe the charm.

That's when an unexpected episode happened. Outside the car window, a group of Chinese people dressed in traditional costumes are holding a unique cultural event. We all looked out the window and were attracted by the strong cultural atmosphere. Seeing this, the driver simply parked the car on the side of the road and invited us to get out of the car to watch together.

It was a wonderful lion dance performance, accompanied by the beat of the drums, and the two lions tossed and jumped on the stage, drawing the applause of the onlookers. We stood in the crowd and felt the warmth and joy from our hometown. At that moment, I seemed to forget that I was in a foreign country, and I only felt that my heart was full of deep affection and pride for my motherland.

3. The true meaning of communication and the inheritance of cultural self-confidence

After watching the show, we got back to the car. The driver said with emotion: "Seeing such a scene reminds me of the New Year in my hometown when I was a child. At that time, although the conditions were difficult, everyone's hearts were closely connected, full of love and hope for life. ”

I nodded sympathetically, and an inexplicable feeling welled up in my heart. Yes, no matter where we are, that love and longing for the motherland always follows us. Language is the bridge between us and our culture.

In the rest of the trip, we talked more about culture. From Chinese calligraphy to Western painting, from Eastern philosophical ideas to Western scientific theories, we speak freely and share our understanding and perception of culture. I found that although we come from different backgrounds and fields, our love and pursuit of culture are similar.

When the car stopped steadily in front of the library, I couldn't get out of the car. The tall, dreadlocked driver said the familiar "thank you" in standard Chinese, and his smile was full of sincerity and friendliness. I look back at the Uber that has carried me through countless adventures, and my heart is full of gratitude and reluctance.

In New York's multicultural melting pot, every Uber trip is a mix of languages and cultures. I have come to realize that the key to authentic communication is the willingness to communicate based on curiosity and kindness, the sincere expression of respect and wisdom, and the openness of tolerance and dialectic. And these stories, as dazzling as the lights of the city, not only illuminate each other's world, but also illuminate the bright light of Chinese culture on the world stage.

Let us take cultural self-confidence as the pen and the bridge of language as the ink, and continue to write the chapter that belongs to the Chinese nation! In the days to come, may we all become the disseminators and inheritors of culture, and let this unique charm shine in every corner of the world.
